Learning & Growing

Well here I am typing on a blog that my mother and grandmother will probably enjoy. (Hi mom! Hi Gigi!)

Part of me doesn’t even really know why I’m here. But the other part of me realizes how much I’ve grown and changed over the last few years and I really want to share that. I thought my years of learning were behind me when I dropped out of college. School was never really my thing and I wasn’t particularly great at it. But as the years pass I realize it was school that I had a problem with. Not learning. I love to learn. And the Lord has been so gracious to allow me to learn more in my late 20’s and early 30’s than I probably ever did in school. Sorry teachers…it’s me, not you. Promise.

I’ve learned to listen to my body.

I’ve learned to advocate for myself and my children.

I’ve learned that my voice matters.

I’ve learned to say “no”…praise Jesus.

I’ve learned to like some vegetables and to stop considering Goldfish as a top 10 favorite food.

I’ve learned how to mange my household. Well, I’m actually still learning that.

I’ve learned to stop caring what people think. 15 year old me would be proud.

I’ve learned how to slow down and enjoy life rather than let it pass me by in a hectic frenzy.

I have almost learned how to spell restaurant and vacuum without having to rely on auto correct.

I have not, however, learned how to keep up with my laundry. So *send help*.

This year in particular I’ve learned a lot about health and wellness and what that looks like for my family. I’ve learned how to be the parent of a child with food allergies and all the responsibilities that come with it. I’ve also learned that health world can be overwhelming at best and cruel at its worst.

So I decided I want to create a space for normal people.

People who might not be mixing beef liver into every meal. Or can’t afford a $500 air purifier in every room. People who may occasionally take OTC meds while still using essential oils. Or maybe a place for people who have no idea what I’m talking about but want to learn.

I think as we get older, and especially as we have kids, we realize that our habits of yesteryear probably weren’t the best. Most of us at some point have tried to achieve health as adults like it was something just out of reach. And if we jumped a little higher or pushed a little harder, it could be ours.

But the truth is that health, just like a lot of things in life is a journey. *Does anybody else loathe that word?* It’s an ongoing process as we learn more about our own bodies and how they operate in the world we live in.

So if you’ve ever found yourself on a “health journey”

or you need healthy to be easier.

or you’re trying to instill better habits into your kids than you had at their age

or you were a fan of NSYNC and therefore are too old to not be taking care of yourself

you’re in the right place.

With me! Not an expert. Just a momma who’s been through the ringer this year and wants to share what I’ve learned and what I will no doubt keep learning. Thanks for sticking around long enough to make it to the end of this wordy introduction. As a bonus, I will tell you that I sometimes don’t know how to spell the word separate either. And I don’t know if it’s my mom brain or the fact that I clearly didn’t pay attention in school. I guess we’ll never know.

Happy Thursday friends!

I loved reading this. My family doesn’t have any food allergies but, I thoroughly enjoyed reading how real you were here.

What I gained from this is I should start journaling the goodness God has been displayin in my life. It’s overwhelming to say the least.

    Thanks for the encouragement!🥰

  3. Hi, daughter!😂
I’m proud of you! I know you’ll be an encouragement to others and I’m thankful for your willingness to share!! God is good!! I love you!!👏🏻♥️

  4. Wow., very proud of you Brianna. When I was growing up in a family of 12 I did not think about any of these things. Our main concern was survival and what we were going to eat for our next meal. We lived on beans and potatoes and if we were lucky we had cornbread and fried chicken. Cleaning the house consisted of Pine Sol and tons of bleach. My Mom taught me many old wives’ tales to care for your Dad and Wesley. Using some of these today might seem barbaric but they worked. I believe with all of the additives and over-processing of our foods are a direct result of a lot of our health problems. With my recent health issues, I must look at making changes too. ❤️
